How to Measure

Waist

Measure at the narrowest point of your torso, usually just above the belly button. Keep the tape parallel to the floor and breathe normally.

Hips

Measure at the widest point of your hips and buttocks. Keep your feet together and ensure the tape is level.

Risk Categories

Women

Low Risk:
< 0.85
Moderate Risk:
0.85 - 0.89
High Risk:
> 0.89

Men

Low Risk:
< 0.90
Moderate Risk:
0.90 - 0.95
High Risk:
> 0.95
Why WHR Matters

Waist-hip ratio is a better predictor of cardiovascular disease risk than BMI alone. It specifically measures abdominal obesity, which is linked to increased health risks.

What is Waist-Hip Ratio?

The waist-hip ratio (WHR) is calculated by dividing your waist circumference by your hip circumference. It's a measure of fat distribution and an indicator of health risks.

A higher WHR indicates more abdominal fat, which is associated with increased risk of cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, and other health conditions.
